5 Tips to Keep Your Home Warm in Winter

As winter approaches and energy bills climb, many homeowners seek ways to maintain warmth without breaking the bank. Discover how effective insulation and simple lifestyle changes can keep your home cozy while keeping your energy costs in check with these insightful tips from Homekeur.

In winter, energy bills often rise. Understandably! It's cold outside, so it's colder indoors too. We set the heating to 21 degrees Celsius to stay comfortable. Many homeowners see their energy bills later and aren't thrilled! A building inspection can help you determine the state of your home's insulation.

Our inspectors will then check the type of glass present, the condition of the window frames, and the age of the central heating boiler. Based on these findings, you can make adjustments to properly insulate your home. These are often significant expenses. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to stay warm and comfortable in the winter without increasing your energy bill. Below are 5 tips from Homekeur for a warm feeling:

1. Dress extra warmly

You can, of course, start by giving yourself some extra attention. Enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate or tea to warm up. Put on some warm socks and slippers, grab a cozy cardigan, and relax on the couch with a cozy throw.

2. Provide heat on the floor

Did you know that as much as 10% of the heat in your home is lost through the floor? This also means the floor feels cold, unless you have underfloor heating , of course. Good floor insulation is important, but it doesn't provide warmth to the floor. It only limits heat loss. Cold feet make you feel completely cold. Place a nice rug on your rug to keep your feet comfortably warm.

3. Go bake something delicious!

Fall and winter are the seasons when we get back to baking. Think cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and apple pies. Delicious! You can also use this to warm up your home. Made something delicious in the oven? Leave the oven open to let it cool down. All the hot air will flow into the house, and you'll notice it. This means the boiler can stay off for a while. Of course, it must be safe to leave a hot oven open.

4. Close all windows and doors

It's important to ventilate your home, but you don't have to do this all day. Open a window in the morning to air it out, and then close everything properly for the rest of the day. This prevents a lot of heat from escaping through open windows and doors. Also, double-check that the windows and doors close properly. Do you feel a draft when a window or door is closed? This will help keep your home cooler. Use a draft excluder, for example, to solve this problem.

5. Make it cozy with candles

Autumn and winter are filled with dark days, and it's wonderfully cozy to light candles indoors. This is not only cozy, but also good for the temperature inside. The flames spread warmth, which is especially noticeable in smaller rooms. So, light some candles to make your home more comfortable.

Good insulation is the basis!

There's a lot you can do to make your home warmer without having to turn up the heating. The tips above will help you get and keep your house nice and warm without your energy bills skyrocketing in the winter. However, it's crucial that your home's insulation is in good condition. Otherwise, all the heat is lost. Are you considering buying a home and want to be sure it's properly insulated? Then have a building inspection report prepared by Homekeur. During this inspection, we'll also check the general state of the home's insulation. Would you like more information, advice, or to schedule an appointment? Please contact us.
