Optimally insulating your home: this is what it costs!
It's important to have a well-insulated home. It ensures a comfortable indoor temperature and can significantly reduce your energy bill. There are several ways to insulate your home, but each type of insulation comes with a different price tag. During a building inspection, we're happy to give you tips on what's possible in your home.
Which insulation is suitable for your home?
When insulating your home, consider several factors. For example, it's wise to insulate your exterior walls if you live in a semi-detached or detached house. Good roof insulation is recommended for terraced houses with large roofs. This prevents a significant portion of heat loss. Tall and narrow houses benefit from good underfloor insulation.
Different types of roof insulation
Approximately 25 to 30 percent of your home's heat loss occurs through the roof. Good roof insulation therefore contributes significantly to your living comfort. Moreover, it reduces your energy consumption, which results in lower costs. You can save the most money by insulating your roof from the inside. There are several options for this:
Glass wool is the cheapest, starting at €8 per square meter, followed by cellulose wadding (from €10 per square meter) and rock wool (from €15 per square meter). This is followed by EPS polystyrene (from €20 per square meter) and XPS polystyrene, which costs from €23 per square meter. The most expensive option is polyurethane foam, with prices starting at €25 per square meter.
Insulation of attic floor and cavity walls
Besides the roof, the attic floor shouldn't be overlooked. This allows you to trap heat before it reaches the roof. For €20 to €25 per square meter, you can install insulation on the attic floor. Along with the attic floor, you can also install cavity wall insulation. This is another good way to significantly reduce heating costs. A cavity wall consists of an inner and an outer wall.
It also has a space between the walls to prevent moisture penetration. Small holes are made in the outer wall, and insulation is then injected through the holes into the space. On average, cavity wall insulation costs €15 to €30 per square meter.
Floor insulation
Floor insulation is definitely a must-have if you're planning to save on heating costs. Insulating your ground floor prevents the cold ground from lowering the indoor temperature. On average, floor insulation costs around €25 per square meter.
