Costs of building inspection

Looking for a new home? There comes a time when it's time to take stock. You're wondering what to consider, what costs are foreseeable, and what are the unforeseen ones? Logically, the question will also arise: How much does a building inspection cost?

On this page, we'll list everything you need to know about building inspections, and you can read about the applicable rates for having a building inspection carried out.

What is a building inspection?

A building inspection is performed by an expert who assesses the structural condition of a house. This includes examining the walls, the structure, the condition of the wood, the hardware, and so on. The expert gathers all the data about the house and compiles it into a report. This building inspection report allows you to make a well-informed decision about whether or not to purchase the property. If the house appears to be in good condition, the decision is easy. If the expert finds any defects, carefully consider the costs and consequences of resolving them. In short, a building inspection will ensure you avoid any unpleasant surprises.

What does it yield?

And that's precisely why it's not only worthwhile to consider the cost of a building inspection, but also what it will bring you. After all, a house consists of many different parts. And resolving a structural defect (which is the buyer's responsibility) usually involves a significant sum of money. Chances are you won't discover these defects yourself. In some cases, it's better not to choose the property in question, simply because it will be too expensive. Having a building inspection carried out will save you a lot of money and worry in such cases.

Wondering when the right time in the purchasing process is to have a building inspection performed? Read on to find out.
