Can you replace the fuse box yourself?

Replacing a fuse box might seem like a feasible DIY project, but the complexities and safety concerns involved make it a task best left to certified professionals. Understanding the importance of hiring a qualified installer and ensuring compliance with current safety standards can protect your home and provide peace of mind.

Replacing the fuse box in your new home is a major undertaking. It's a job that requires expertise. After all, the fuse box is the central point in your home where electricity enters and is distributed. No mistakes are allowed. Are you allowed to replace a fuse box yourself? Yes, you can, but it's much safer to have it done by a certified installer.

Choose a Certified Installer

Since 2007, it's been especially important to be vigilant when looking for the right installer. Since then, the term is no longer protected, meaning only those who can call themselves a Certified Installer meet the legal requirements. If a seal needs to be broken during installation, only the Certified Installer can do so.

Applicable safety requirements

If you decide to do some of the work yourself, keep in mind that a main switch is now mandatory in every installation. At least two residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs) must also be installed. A maximum of four circuits may be connected to each RCCB. It's also becoming increasingly common to connect solar panels to the installation. After all, the solar power must be fed safely into your electrical system. Specific limits apply to such connections.

Safe cooking and gardening

If you plan to cook electrically (in the future), don't forget to connect the necessary cooking circuit or any other power circuit. Electric cooking requires a particularly high wattage. Regular circuits can't handle such a high wattage. Also want to safely power your garden lighting? Then install a residual current circuit breaker (RCBO) in the fuse box.

Your UNETO-VNI installer

Of course, the tips above aren't enough. If you're already feeling dizzy, quickly call in the help of a UNETO-VNI-affiliated installer. Every UNETO-VNI member meets very strict requirements. Furthermore, UNETO-VNI collaborates with the Consumers' Association and the Homeowners' Association. Should a dispute arise, two independent dispute committees are ready to assist you. Prefer to feel more confident about your new distribution board? Then quickly find a Certified UNETO-VNI Installer near you!
