Ground rod present in home: why important?

Buying a new home is thrilling, but discovering hidden issues like missing grounding rods can turn excitement into a costly nightmare. A thorough building inspection not only ensures that critical safety measures are in place but also saves you from unforeseen expenses, providing peace of mind and a secure investment.

Are you planning to buy a new home? That's fantastic, and very exciting! The house meets all your needs, and you're looking forward to a bright future in it. You don't want to discover something's wrong after you've bought it. That's why it's important to have everything checked thoroughly. Is there an earth rod in the house? Are there any hidden defects in the kitchen or, for example, the heating system?

Construction technical inspection provides certainty

Of course, you always check the necessary things yourself when you're looking to buy a house. You check various things to gain more certainty. However, you can't achieve optimal certainty without a building inspection. Therefore, it's always a good idea to have a building inspection carried out to ensure you won't encounter any unpleasant surprises after purchasing the property. During the building inspection, we can immediately check whether an earth rod is already present in the house.

Presence of earth pin important

Electricity can always escape in the event of an emergency, posing significant risks and dangers. A grounding rod ensures that the released current is conducted directly into the ground in such situations, effectively eliminating risks and dangers. The grounding rod can be located inside the home, but it can also be found outside. Unfortunately, some homes don't have a grounding rod. If the building inspection reveals that there is no grounding rod in or near the home, one must be installed.

Have your ground rod driven by a professional

It's not possible to install an earth rod yourself, mainly because this is a risky task that's best done safely by a professional. You'll need to hire an electrician to install the earth rod, and this naturally entails additional costs. It's not a job that can be completed in just a few minutes. The earth rod must be driven into the ground, often at least 10 meters deep. In addition, the earth rod must be connected to the electrical circuit. If a building inspection reveals that an earth rod is not present, you'll be faced with additional costs for having one installed.
