Earth leakage circuit breaker a must in every meter box
A house without electrical outlets is unimaginable. Every home normally has an electrical system to which you can connect your appliances. We all assume that plugging in a properly functioning appliance won't cause any problems, and that if there are any problems, the residual current device (RCD) provides an additional safety feature.
This is what you need to know about earth leakage circuit breakers
But does your future home have a residual current device (RCD)? And does it work properly? Was it installed by a certified installer? These are all questions you probably don't understand, but the answers are crucial for ensuring the safety of your home.
What is mandatory and what is not?
A residual current device (RCD) trips as soon as a leakage current occurs. This occurs when a leakage current exceeds 30 milliamperes and lasts for a certain number of milliseconds. Without a RCD, a power outage can have serious consequences, from a severe shock to a fire or worse. In some cases, installing a RCD in your home is mandatory, depending on the year your system was installed.
A recently installed electrical system also has other requirements. For example, it must have an earth connection and additional protection in the form of a residual current device (RCD). There are exceptions to this as well. In short: you're probably already overwhelmed by the sheer number of things you should and shouldn't include in a meter box.
Increase the security of your home
Expert advice in a building report will provide clarity. Experienced specialists can determine exactly what you need for the electrical system in your new or existing home. They can also determine, for example, whether the residual current device (RCD) is in good working order and properly connected. This increases your safety if you decide to buy the property.
