Inspection of bathroom with high moisture content video
Lead flashing torn + incorrectly placed and ribbon joint coming loose
What can go wrong with plastic roof edges — and how to prevent it
When it comes to roofing, the layperson often only sees flat surfaces and seams. But it's precisely where different materials meet—such as synthetic roofing and facade finishes—that the biggest problems often arise. This video clearly illustrates and explains three common mistakes: a torn lead flashing, incorrectly installed lead flashing, and a loose bed joint.
🔨 1. Torn lead flashing
A lead flashing is essentially a thin strip of lead that drains roof water away from the junctions between the roof and the facade. The flashing must be flexible and waterproof.
👉 The video shows that the bib is torn .
Consequence: water can seep behind the roof covering, which over time can lead to moisture problems in the facade and interior walls.
Cause could be:
- poor confirmation
- tension due to temperature differences
- wrong type of lead or material that is too thin
📏 2. Incorrectly placed lead flashing
Correctly installing lead flashing is a skilled job. If the overlaps aren't correct or the flashing isn't placed far enough under the roofing material, water can still seep under the roofing.
✔ Good application requires:
- sufficient overlap
- correct confirmation
- correct order of layers
The video shows you exactly how this can go wrong — and why it directly affects the roof's waterproofness.
🧱 3. Loose joint
A bed joint is the joint between the roof and the facade, or between the bricks themselves. Properly sealed with sealant or foil, for example, such a joint keeps out wind and water.
In this situation the joint comes loose.
Implications:
- cold bridges are created
- rainwater can easily penetrate
- insulation value decreases
This is one of those details where you only realize the importance of good workmanship when it already goes wrong — and that's exactly why the video is so informative.
🧠 What can you learn from this?
Whether you do the work yourself or hire a professional:
✔ Pay attention to details
✔ Check material selection and assembly sequence
✔ Always have connections to the facade and roof thoroughly checked
