Winter viewing: what should you pay attention to?
Have you recently found your dream home? That must be a wonderful feeling. The next step is a viewing. Especially during the winter months, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Don't rely solely on photos
Perhaps you've stumbled upon a beautiful home online. At first glance, it seems to meet all your needs and requirements. However, remember that photos don't always reflect reality. Often, a seller has enhanced the photos in a property listing. For example, the light is excellent because it was a sunny day. This makes the house stand out better and increases its chances of selling.
Winter light in the house
During the winter months, the light can suddenly become much less appealing. Don't let this discourage you. If you think your home looks great in winter, it'll be even more beautiful in summer or spring!
Always view in daylight
It naturally gets dark faster in winter. You're likely viewing a property in the twilight or darkness, which means artificial lighting is used. Artificial lighting can cause you to miss certain details. Defects like mold and cracks are much less noticeable. Therefore, it's wise to view a property during the winter months in daylight. Both the light and the ambiance are much better then.
Walk around the neighborhood
Always take a walk around the neighborhood where your potential "dream house" is located and explore the area. See for yourself what the winter atmosphere is like and whether you feel safe on the streets. Besides feeling at home in the house, you should also feel at home in the neighborhood.
Look at the space of the house
During a viewing, don't focus too much on the furniture and the layout of the property. You can always adjust that later. It's much more important to get a good impression of a space. You might already have furniture. In that case, it's wise to measure it to ensure it fits in the house and through the door.
Building inspection
Perhaps you're unsure whether or not to request a building inspection . Not having a building inspection performed before buying a house means taking risks. There may be defects you can't immediately spot. Even if the house turns out to be in good condition, your money will have been well spent.
