Slate, what is it?
Are the slates on the main roof in good technical condition? Then they can last for many years to come. A precise expected lifespan is difficult to predict and depends on various factors, such as weather conditions. With proper maintenance and better conditions, the lifespan can be extended.
- Clean the roof twice a year.
- A natural slate roof can last up to 100 years
- Check the lead strips for defects between the facade and roof connection
Defects, comments and other points of interest
- Several roof tiles (slates) may have sagged or hung crooked. These can be rearranged and fitted with hooks to prevent this from happening again.
- Rearranging is not easy, it is better to have this repaired by an expert, with such defects there is always a risk of water ingress.
- In case of breakage, roof tiles (slates) should be replaced.
Profile plating
- Clean the roof twice a year.
- A profiled plating roof covering can last up to 30 years.
- Check the lead strips for defects between the facade and roof connection
- The connection with the edge and corner profiles and finishing strips isn't always perfect; be aware of these connections. Defects can pose a risk of water ingress (leakage).
Roofing suspected of asbestos
Regarding a roof suspected of containing asbestos, the owner usually decides whether or not to replace the panels, and when. Naturally, the technical condition and overall condition of the roof covering play a significant role in this.
- Please note that removing asbestos corrugated sheets or asbestos roof tiles must be carried out by a remediation contractor.
