Slate, what is it?

Is your roof standing the test of time, or could it be a ticking time bomb? Understanding the technical condition of your roof is crucial for longevity and preventing costly damage; our expert inspection services offer peace of mind and actionable insights to keep your home safe and secure.

Are the slates on the main roof in good technical condition? Then they can last for many years to come. A precise expected lifespan is difficult to predict and depends on various factors, such as weather conditions. With proper maintenance and better conditions, the lifespan can be extended.

  • Clean the roof twice a year.
  • A natural slate roof can last up to 100 years
  • Check the lead strips for defects between the facade and roof connection

Defects, comments and other points of interest

  • Several roof tiles (slates) may have sagged or hung crooked. These can be rearranged and fitted with hooks to prevent this from happening again.
  • Rearranging is not easy, it is better to have this repaired by an expert, with such defects there is always a risk of water ingress.
  • In case of breakage, roof tiles (slates) should be replaced.
