Solar panels on your house: always interesting!

Buying a house involves a lot of considerations. Sustainability is, of course, one aspect. During a building inspection, we can advise you on whether or not to install solar panels and what the associated costs will be. Many new homeowners are still hesitant about purchasing solar panels, but it's worthwhile for everyone! With just a few solar panels, you can generate enough to recoup your standby electricity costs (for your refrigerator, internet modem, freezer).

Buy solar panels

By purchasing solar panels, you make a one-time investment that will save you money on your energy bill in the long run. Installing solar panels is profitable within 5 to 7 years and is also good for the environment.

But how exactly do solar panels work? Solar panels convert solar energy into electricity. Many people think it has to be sunny and bright to generate electricity, but this isn't true. Even on a cloudy day, solar panels generate electricity. The amount of electricity produced isn't consistent; it depends on the weather.

An average home consumes 2,000 to 2,500 kWh per year. With about 12 solar panels, you can generate this amount of electricity. The cost is around €4,000 to €5,000, including VAT. You can reclaim the VAT, but you must do so within six months.

Sustainable investing

Even if you only generate a small amount of power, it's enough to power household appliances like refrigerators and freezers. Moreover, having solar panels reduces the tax burden, and every bit of power generated this way is environmentally friendly.

Solar panels last approximately 25 years. By the third year, they've generated as much energy as is needed to manufacture them. This means the solar panels remain profitable for another 22 years after the first three years.

The panels are installed on your house's roof. A slightly flatter, south-facing roof is ideal, but solar panels can be installed almost anywhere. An installer will connect the panels with cables, and an inverter will be installed in your garage or attic. These cables will be invisible after installation.
