Radiator or underfloor heating: pros & cons
Good heating in a home is important. Living comfort increases significantly when the indoor temperature is comfortable. There are various types of heating systems, such as radiators or underfloor heating. Both options have advantages and disadvantages.
Building inspection: heating
If you've found a home that meets all your needs and requirements, you're naturally excited. Finding a truly perfect fit isn't easy. Naturally, you want to know that the property is in perfect condition, beyond any potential defects the seller may have pointed out. Therefore, always have a building inspection performed to ensure you won't be faced with unexpected costs later on. Homekeur is happy to perform a building inspection. During this inspection, the heating system in the home will also be thoroughly inspected.
One heating principle, two heating systems
Whether you have underfloor heating or radiator heating, the heating principle is the same. Water is heated by the central heating system and then distributed to the various heating elements via a network of pipes. With underfloor heating, the hot water is directed into pipes located under the floor. With radiators, the hot water flows into the radiators. This results in a different heat distribution, which is more even with underfloor heating than with radiator heating.
The advantages and disadvantages of radiator heating
Radiator heating has several advantages and disadvantages. There are standard radiators, but also designer radiators and corner radiators, for example, that can be perfectly adapted to the room. One advantage of radiator heating is that it provides more heat in the immediate vicinity of the radiators. A disadvantage is that it provides slightly less heat at a greater distance from the heating elements. Furthermore, radiators consume more energy than underfloor heating. Radiators are easier to replace than underfloor heating.
The advantages and disadvantages of underfloor heating
Underfloor heating heats evenly and is completely concealed beneath the floor. This prevents dust from accumulating behind it, unlike radiators. Underfloor heating is more energy-efficient, and you'll notice this on your energy bill. Various types of floor coverings can, however, block the heat from the underfloor heating. Underfloor heating heats up more slowly than radiators and is more expensive to install than radiator heating. However, you'll recoup the higher investment thanks to the higher efficiency.
Clarity about the heating
A home can have only radiator heating or only underfloor heating. We're increasingly seeing a combination of both options. This often provides the highest level of living comfort. In all cases, it's important to have the entire heating system inspected to ensure its quality. Homekeur is happy to conduct a building inspection for you.
