Which glass is best: double, HR or triple glazing?

Single glazing is not energy-efficient and will therefore negatively impact the energy label. In addition, you should also consider higher energy bills and lower living comfort. 1. Double glazing is the least insulating
Double glazing is also known as insulating glass. This type of glazing naturally offers better insulation than single glazing. However, when considering double glazing, high-efficiency glazing, and triple glazing, double glazing is the least insulating of the three. Double glazing consists of two panes of glass with air compressed between them. This creates better thermal insulation, also known as the U-value. This means the home is more energy-efficient than with single glazing.
2. HR glass provides better insulation
Comparing HR glass with double glazing, we see that HR glass insulates better. This type of glass is also called HR++ glass or high-performance glass. This variant also consists of two panes of glass, but there is a key difference. The space between these two panes is not filled with air, but with krypton or argon gas. Depending on the gas filling and the thickness of the cavity, a thermal insulation value (U-value) of between 0.8W/m²K and 1.3m²K is achieved. This is better than with double glazing. A lower U-value is always better than a higher U-value. HR glass is the most popular choice for renovation and new construction projects.
3. Triple glazing provides the best insulation
Then there's triple glazing, and that name obviously has a origin. The term derives from the fact that this variant consists not of two panes of glass, but of three. This means there are two cavities in this glazing, both of which are filled with gas. The thermal insulation value (U-value) is then between 0.4 and 0.7 W/m²K. This is lower than the U-value of HR glass, meaning this glazing insulates better. However, the three panes in this glazing also let in less sunlight and contribute to the pane's weight. This makes it necessary to choose extra-strong frames.
