Damaged floor? Here's how to repair scratches!

Wooden floors exude elegance but can easily fall victim to damage from everyday activities, making maintenance a crucial aspect of home care. Discover effective DIY solutions to restore your floor's beauty and learn preventative measures to minimize future wear and tear, ensuring your investment stands the test of time.

A wooden floor is very beautiful, and many people have consciously chosen it. But a wooden floor can also be vulnerable, and of course, you want to live in your home. Wearing high heels, sliding furniture around, and even children playing can cause damage. Replacing a complete floor is often not an option. However, you can often repair a damaged floor yourself.

Repair superficial scratches

This is often simply a matter of restoring the color. Clean the scratch thoroughly and then dry it. Fill in the scratch with a marker or chalk until there's no longer a visible difference in color from the rest of the floor. Then apply a coat of oil or varnish. Let it dry thoroughly, and it will look perfect again.

Deep scratches or damage

Simply adjusting the color won't fix more serious damage. However, there are various DIY products available for this purpose, such as a special wax or wood filler.

To do this, proceed as follows:
  • Clean the damaged floor thoroughly and remove any loose wood particles and splinters. Then let the floor dry thoroughly.
  • Prepare the repair material according to the instructions and check the color again. Then apply the material and remove any stains with a spatula.
  • Let it dry thoroughly and then finish it according to the instructions. Apply oil or varnish if desired for a beautiful result.

Take care of your beautiful floor

Although repairs may seem like child's play, it's often better to prevent them from happening. This can often be achieved with a few simple measures.

  • Use felt pads on your furniture to prevent scratches when sliding.
  • Do not wear shoes with sharp high heels on the floor
  • Give the children a special play blanket. This prevents damage and often gives them extra enjoyment.
