Facade reveals a lot about the structural condition

The facade of a house can reveal crucial insights into its overall structural health, offering a glimpse into potential issues like foundation problems or wood rot. Discover how a meticulous building inspection starts with a comprehensive analysis of the facade, setting the stage for a thorough evaluation of the entire property.

Did you know that you can tell a lot about a house's structural condition just by looking at its facade? If the facade is in good condition, we often see this reflected in the rest of the house. During a building inspection, our inspectors always begin with a visual inspection of the facade and record their findings in our proprietary app. We're happy to use a ladder to further inspect the gutters and roof.

Facade of a house

If there is subsidence due to foundation problems, cracks will always be visible in the masonry. Cracks aren't always a problem, as the condition of the house is often related to its year of construction. During an inspection, we also look at various things, such as:

  • What is the condition of the gutter?
  • Are the roof tiles whole or broken?
  • Is there wood rot in the window frames?

For example, if we notice some wood rot in the window frames on the outside of the house, we will pay close attention to this during the subsequent inspection.
