How do you choose the right professional?

Finding the right professional for your renovation project can be daunting, with the need to balance reliability, quality, and cost. By following these essential tips, including checking certifications, references, and insurance, you can ensure a smoother experience and a successful outcome for your home improvements.

When you're moving, you might be faced with renovations and other tasks that you'd prefer to outsource. During a building inspection, the inspector will also provide a general cost estimate based on their findings, which may allow for repairs to the property. There are plenty of professionals available, but how do you find the right one? They need to be a good fit for your project, reliable, and deliver high-quality work. The following tips will help you find a professional who can carry out your project.

Chamber of Commerce registration, quality mark and diplomas

A professional affiliated with a trade association often offers greater assurance of quality. Examples include UNETO-VNI, De Vakman, and Bouwgarant. So always check whether the professional you've found is registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) and/or holds the correct quality marks and certifications.

Checking references

It's always a good idea to check a professional's references. Besides finding out if others are satisfied, you can also check out what kind of jobs they handle. During busy times, many professionals take on the jobs that suit them best. These are usually the jobs they have experience with, or the ones they enjoy most. Does this match your project, or is there another professional with more experience?

To compare

On websites like Kluswebsite.nl and Werkspot.nl, you can see what other customers thought of a tradesperson's work. Hiring a tradesperson who has already satisfied so many others gives you a sense of peace of mind.

Look beyond the price

Some professionals charge remarkably low rates. While that might seem reasonable at first, it's often not the best option. In many cases, the quality is disappointing. It's a shame, because you've already paid. Paying more for higher quality ultimately yields more! So always consider more than just the price.

Ask if the professional is insured

A good professional is almost always insured. This isn't mandatory, but it does indicate that your professional is professional and responsible. The insurances we're referring to here are liability and disability insurance.

Prepare yourself well

Finally, it's important that you know exactly what needs to be renovated in your (new) home and what your wishes are. A building inspection can help with this. It will map out what needs to be done and the associated costs. This will give you an idea of the costs.

Would you like to make an appointment for a building inspection?

The cost of a building inspection (up to 250 m²) is only €489 including VAT. We'll conduct a comprehensive building inspection and you'll receive a building report. Do you have any questions? We're happy to help and can schedule an appointment with an expert inspector right away if you wish!
