4 Causes of a Clogged Sewer

Are you about to buy a house? You don't want to face additional construction costs after becoming a homeowner, do you? Unfortunately, this happens to many people who buy a house. For example, they encounter a blocked drain. Fortunately, there are several causes that can quickly resolve a problem like this. We've listed four possible causes of a blocked drain for you.

1. Poorly constructed and outdated sewer systems

New sewer systems are less likely to have problems than older ones. That's why it's important to pay close attention to the quality of the sewer system, the year it was installed, and whether any drawings are available.

2. Root ingrowth

Root intrusion is common in older sewers. Stoneware pipes are particularly susceptible to this. Root milling can solve this problem. In other cases, installing a new sewer system is necessary.

3. Caked-on grease

Excess grease is often flushed down the toilet. Think of food scraps, for example. Paint and other types of waste are also often flushed down the drain. Toilets and sinks aren't designed for this, of course, and can easily cause a blocked drain.

4. Excessive use of toilet paper

Some people use too much toilet paper or flush sanitary towels or cleaning wipes down the toilet. This can cause the drain to become clogged. Using a drain unblocker can help, as can some over-the-counter products.

Prevent or solve sewer problems

Neither buyers nor sellers want sewer problems. Therefore, as a seller, always ensure proper sewer management. Don't flush everything down the toilet; use trash cans or other waste containers instead. This can prevent a lot of trouble. Still experiencing a blocked drain?
